The first step to a healthy glow is more about what goes in your body than on it. The most important thing you can do for your skin is to stay hydrated and drink plenty of water throughout the day. This maintains the balance in the skin keeping it fresh, supple and radiant. Avoid things that dehydrate you, such as caffeine and soft drinks. Alternatively drink green tea and fresh fruit juices. These are full of anti-oxidants, another secret to healthy skin. Alcohol may be the worst reason in dulling ones natural glow so try avoiding large quantities of the same. Eating a healthy nutritious diet and regular exercise also contributes to maintaining healthy skin.
Normal Skin
- Even healthy skin needs looking after to retain that natural beauty. Bathing and cleansing the skin at least once a day is extremely important. Moisturising and pampering the skin with good products nourishes, and restores the skin cells keeping them balanced, soft and taut. Schiff Soap contains the unique combination of moisturizers which pamper the skin, comes equipped with Active Germ Fighters that protect the skin from bacteria keeping the skin soft, velvety smooth and attractive.
Dry Skin
- Dry skin can cause itchiness and irritation which is aggravated during the winter season and also when exposed to direct sunlight. To tackle this skin type one must use a gentle cream based soap which is high in TFM (Total Fatty Matter). This re-hydrates the skin making it smooth, and additionally the high oil content within the soap acts as a lubricant throughout the day. Along with this one must keep the skin moisturized with a good body cream (not lotion) and Sun block is a must (preferably one for sensitive skin). A soap which is great for battling this skin type is: Doy Care Crème (A great smelling Cream based Soap, made with vegetable oils with a TFM content of 80%). An alternative to soap is a Shower ‘Gel’ which washes off leaving the natural body oils undamaged and intact.
Oily Skin
- Over productive sebaceous glands under the skin are responsible for creating larger pores leaving the skin greasy. This is aggravated by heat and pollution. For this skin type one must use a glycerin based soap which has the properties of rejuvenating the skin leaving it fresh and oil free. Also use oil-free based products thereafter like oil-free makeup on the face, and oil free moisturizers for the skin (body lotions are better to use than creams). Sun block is a must but should also be oil-free. Doy Care Aloe Vera, a glycerin based soap with the refreshing properties of Aloe Vera is ideal for this skin type. Aloe Vera has for centuries been very highly regarded across the world as a remarkable natural skin cleanser with healing properties that moisturize your skin and also revitalize it. Doy Care Aloe Vera with glycerin is a beautiful translucent green skincare soap containing genuine Aloe extracts which provide you with all the benefits of Aloe Vera, keeping your skin beautiful, fresh and glowing all around the year; be it spring, summer, monsoon, or winter.
Aging Skin
- Everyone would like flawless, baby soft skin. However, as time goes by, the environment and other factors, damage our skin casing wrinkles and blemishes. There are four major components that make up a successful anti-aging skin care routine: -A moisturizer that penetrates deeply into the skin will help reduce sunspots, fine lines and wrinkles. Some skin types may require a larger or smaller amount of moisturizer to produce the desired results. -Antioxidants that can stop the oxidation process will lead to diminish the visible effects of skin aging. –Sunscreen protects you from harmful UV rays and keeps your skin looking smooth and young. –Exfoliating the skin is helpful to renew and replenish the skin. A soap with glycerin like Doy Care Aloe Vera as mentioned above or Jo Herbal – a soap, complete with the goodness of Neem, Tulsi, Aloe Vera and Glycerin is ideal to keep the skin looking fresh and young.
The secret to healthy skin is simple. Maintain a healthy balanced lifestyle by incorporating plenty of water with a good wholesome diet, some amount of
exercise and of course nourish and pamper you skin with the products it requires. This will no doubt result in glowing fresh and young skin all year round.

Amazing herbal unique handmade soap for facial care made from Ocean mud and fullers earth with essence of papaya.
Price: INR 18 Rs for 85gms (in the year 2011)
It is marketed by Sarovaram Business Group based out of Kalpathy, Palakkad in Kerala.
Details about the product: TFM: 74%, Grade II toilet soap.
Ingredients: Multhani mitti, Kadal mitti, papaya extract, pure coconut oil, aloe vera, perfume
What the product says: Hand made, ayurvedic soap, natural, pure and herbal, free from animal fat.
TFM-Total Fatty Matter a measure used for identifying the amount of fatty matter present in soaps. For soaps the main ingredients would be the fatty matter extracted from plants, animals and fragrance, colour and also contains sodium and potassium salts as the key ingredients. Above 80% of TFM in any soaps are desirable which are said to be Grade1 and those between 65% and 80% are said to be grade 2 except ayurvedic soaps. Higher percentages of fatty matter make soap softer by counteracting sodium and potassium salts.
What I understood from searching online was that the more the TFM, the better the soap for our skin. For Ayurvedic soaps, 70% and above TFM was mentioned to be really good. This was news for me as I never bothered to check more about a soap other than the fragrance and the fact that it is hand-made[ I use only handmade or ayurvedic soaps]
I am sure none of us needs a beauty lecture about the ingredients like multhani mitti [fullers earth], papaya extract, pure coconut oil and aloe vera. The only interesting ingredient was kadal mitti. I checked with the SA and he said its actually sea-mud, kadal is Malayalam for sea. I have read a lot about dead sea mud soaps and products, but I have not yet come across anything that uses Indian Ocean mud! Anyways the fact that its ayurvedic and herbal and cheap [of course!] made me pick 4 pieces of it..
Shelf life- Not mentioned but I guess easily around 3years
OMG, OMG, OMG!!! This is such an awesome product. I recently saw an ad from Dove, which was about challenging ladies to go outside with makeup. Now, I dont use Dove so I cannot say how that works, but this soap can totally meets that challenge. Within 2 days of using this soap I found that my naturally oily oily skin looking normal, lesser pimples and a more even coloration. Within a week, people started noticing and started complimenting me that my face looks brighter; and I feel it looks more elastic and younger! I have not seen any bleaching properties so far, and I am thankful for it cos, somehow the word bleaching makes me think of those harsh chemicals. The soap looks so natural and from the way it lathers and how the paste looks as I wash it off my face, I am sure of multani mitti being an ingredient.
The soap has a very herbal fragrance that doesnt stay very long, smells like tulsi+neem combined which gives a fresh feeling as well. The downside is that I have never smelled anything papaya in it, so im not sure how much papaya is in there.
The packaging is plain but who cares so long as the product works! Only thing I noticed is that since its herbal, it tends to get finished very very fast. I am planning to stock this as much as I can. The SA mentioned that this soap is made by low-income-family-house-wives for additional income and so this is in a way a good deed as well!!!!

Godrej No 1 Saffron and Milk Cream is a Grade 1 soap with 76 percent TFM

 Nirma Sandal
Over the period, Indian toilet soap market has fragmented & has seen emergence of prominent floral fragrance segments as Sandal, Rose, Jasmine, etc. Nima Sandal is a one of such product in floral segment. This toilet soap has 80% TFM content, with rich & exotic fragrance. It promises benefits of Sandal oil & Turmeric powder. It is a premium product from Nima stable and is available in 100g and 150g packs.

As per Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the Grade I soap has TFM above 80%, Grade II with TFM 65-80% and Grade III with TFM 55-65%. Usually, bathing bars do have a TFM value less than 55%. Therefore, it is always recommended to pick a toilet soap that falls under Grade I category that has high cleansing efficiency.
It is mandatory for toilet soap marketing companies to display TFM value on soap wrapper. Always make sure to check the cover for TFM value and get high TFM soap for pleasant bath. Don’t let MNC’s to take you for granted. Remember Grade III means a lot of filler. It may be asbestos or any other harmful surfactant. Be wise and make a judicious choice for yourself with TFM value not less than 75%.
Sadly, the popular soap brands like Lux and Dettol have 70% and 71% respectively. Similarly, the popular ayurvedic tagged brands like Chandrika and Medimix have a low TFM of 65% and 62%.
