Anna Mess in Kodambakkam has roped in chefs from the temple town, and has the city’s most popular drink, Famous Jigarthanda
It
is said that the average Madurai native consumes at least three glasses
of jigarthanda a day. And a visit to the 15-day-old Madurai Anna Mess
Redefined (not to be confused with Madurai’s Amma Mess that has a cult
following) on Kodambakkam High Road reveals that it not only helps
battle heat, but also the spice-laden cuisine that the locals love. With
a team of chefs brought in from the third largest city in the state,
advertising professional Charles Solomon realised his dream of opening a
restaurant serving Madurai’s much-loved cuisine. He has exercised a bit
of caution with his menu, offering just a selection of dishes popular
in the region, but promises more soon. Anna
Mess has the most popular delicacies covered. And in case the rice
lovers were wondering, yes, they do offer biryani and meals as well. Meal for two at approxim -ately Rs.500. Details: 24730006 NEW NO-93,OLD NO-53,LAKSHMI TOWERS, ARCOT ROAD, KODAMBAKKAM, 600024
Say cheers
For that authentic experience, Solomon has roped in Madurai’s Famous Jigarthanda, who have been making the drink since 1977. Currently supplying to Anna Mess, one of the brothers behind the outfit confides that they will be setting up shop in T Nagar soon. Till then, you can enjoy the concoction of milk, almond resin, basundi and sherbet at Anna Mess, for Rs.60 a glass.
