CHENNAI: A few weeks after the messiah of coffee rooms, Starbucks
stepped foot in the city, it was 77-year-old doughnut franchise Krispy
Kreme’s turn. Launched on Thursday morning at the Express Avenue mall,
the city can now boast of its first international doughnut franchise,
after Delhi and Bengaluru.
We have placed a hot light outside the glass room,” says Sunil,
pointing at a cylindrical orange structure. “When this is switched on,
it means that the machine is working. And we usually have a horde of
people entering in when the lights are on to get hot doughnuts,” he
says. In one hour, a hundred dozens of soft and supple doughnuts come
out of the machine. A few directly go to the stands, which have the 16
varieties that are ready at any given time. “Like the original sugar
doughnut or ‘melt in the mouth’, which is our signature,” says Sunil.
And then there are those with apple, mango or strawberry fills, which
are quite popular as well.
While one original glazed is priced at
Rs 49 plus tax, buy it in double dozens and get it at just Rs 32 a
doughnut. “We have deals in dozen packs. This is because most of our
orders are from colleges and schools and they mostly are for dozen
packs,” he says.
